Boracay Island

First, we have the island of Boracay. Needless to say, it would be a great disservice if we left out this spot from our list as it is probably the most popular. After all, it is where the sport found its start in the Philippines. Known as the country’s kitesurfing mecca, enthusiasts and professionals alike flock to the island to experience its mighty winds.

The wind here would allow your kites to soar from 9m and above. Take note that compared to other kitesurfing spots, the wind is relatively lighter here. However, they are incredibly consistent, especially in the months of November to March.

If you are looking for a specific spot on the island, then you should probably give the White Beach a try. It is one of the country’s most prominent kitesurfing spots and is famous around the world. Aside from its the creamy and pristine sands, the beach also offers a great kitesurfing experience especially during the months of June to September.

Ilocos Norte

The province of Ilocos Norte is located in the northernmost regions of the Philippines. It is well-known for its beautiful historical sites and great beaches. However, it would please you to know that it also serves as home to several of the best kitesurfing spots in the Philippines.

The Ilocos province’s location ensures that it has the ideal kitesurfing conditions. If you are looking for a more challenging experience then this is it. You can expect only the biggest waves coupled with the strongest winds.

One of the standout places is the Kingfisher resort in the resort town of Pagudpud. The wind is particularly strong here because of the phenomenon known as the Venturi effect brought about by the nearby mountain range. As the wind passes through the mountains, its speed is given a boost of 10 to 15 knots.

Another great place you need to try is Bangui Beach – a stone’s throw away from the iconic windmills of Ilocos Norte. It serves as an ideal beach break location. You will especially love the side-shore winds. It is perfect for experienced kitesurfers. Needless to say, the spot is incredibly picturesque with its panoramic vista made complete by the windmills in the background. It makes for a kitesurfing experience like no other.

Finally, if you are looking for a flat water kiteboarding experience, then you need to check out the Paoay Lake. Its calm body of water complemented by the strong winds coming off the Taiwan Strait will give you the ideal weather to start kitesurfing. The place is ideal if you are working with smaller kites.

Another spot famous for its pristine waters is Palawan. Well-known for its underground river and its many diving locations, it should come as no surprise that the island is also home to a couple of the best kitesurfing spots in the Philippines.

Conveniently located in the city of Puerto Princesa at the southern end of Honda Bay, it is a mere 20-minute drive from the Puerto Princesa International Airport. As its name suggests, the Kiteclub is a beachfront resort that specifically caters to kitesurfing. Similar to King’s Resort in Ilocos, the winds are particularly strong here because of the Venturi effect coming off the nearby mountain ranges.

If you wish to go a little further away from the bustle of Puerto Princesa, then you should swing by Cuyo Bay. It is the perfect spot in Palawan if you wish to go flat water kiteboarding. The topography of the beach plays a major role in this — particularly its sandy bottom and reef pass. Just remember that the wind can be particularly strong during October to May as brought about by the northeast wind (amihan).
